TOEIC photographs is the first task in the listening section. These questions show you photographs with four statements. You need to choose the correct statement.
Use the ideas below to succeed on the photograph task of the TOEIC listening section.
Focus
Focus on the middle of the photograph and the main action. The photograph section is not designed to trick you with small details. Look for the main idea.
Look at the following photograph as an example.
The questions will be about the people and their actions. It will not be about small details like the small items on the table. They will not expect you to choose tricky statements like these:
- The tablet has images of books.
- The woman is holding a pen, not a pencil.
They will make statements about the main focus of the photograph, like this:
- The people are discussing something on the computer.
Eliminate Wrong Answers
As you hear each statement, tell yourself yes, no, or maybe. Often the correct answer is not that obvious, but the other three choices are completely wrong. It is common to think no three times and maybe once. The maybe is your correct answer.
Don’t Get Frustrated
Don’t get frustrated by words you don’t understand on the TOEIC photograph task. Many times you don’t need to understand every word to know if the statement is true or false.
Think about this example statement:
- The man is unloading the truck in the rain.
Although you didn’t understand or hear the verb unload, you can see that in the photo there is no rain. This way you know the statement is false.
