TOEIC Short Talks are the last part of the listening section. In this task, you hear a short talk by one speaker. You must answer three questions about the talk.
Use the strategies below to succeed on the short talks task on the TOEIC listening section.
Main Ideas
One of the three questions is normally a main idea question. This often asks the purpose of the talk. These are some example main idea questions:
- What is the purpose of the talk?
- What is the main idea of this talk?
Specific Details
Many questions ask you for specific details. These are some examples:
- When did he send the report?
- How many people attended the event?
Inferences
These are questions that ask you to predict or infer. They could look like this:
- What does the speaker imply?
- What does the speaker infer?
For main idea, specific details, and inferences questions, you need to listen for the information you need.
