The third conditional listening exercise uses a song from one of the most famous singers in the world. One of Taylor Swift’s first hit songs was “Should’ve Said No”. The song uses the third conditional.
The third conditional is also called the past unreal conditional because it is for possible actions in the past. It is often used for regrets. In this song, Swift is talking about things that happened in the past and how they could have been different.
Look at the lyrics and how they use the 3rd conditional:
Subject + Modal + Have + Past Participle
- You should have said no.
When you listen to the song, focus on the past conditional grammar structure.
